![]() Definitely worth playing for all Metroid fans. 1X Windowed mode is far too small for comfort for me, but Full Screen on my 1080p monitor seemed to do just fine. I really wish the game allowed for a 2X or 3X Windowed mode. Fans may recognize the 360 aiming style from Samus Returns but for me, it harkens back to the old game Abuse. Fans of Metroid Prime will recognize many of the same locales and enemies and even musical themes, which have been intelligently translated into 2D, astoundingly well. Yesterday, Team SCU, the team who have been working on Prime 2D (“Metroid” is absent from the title for obvious reasons) released their first public demo. Other basic changes would probably be to make her run speed and mobility a bit less sluggish although she should still be floaty, she could use more agile athleticism at the cost of raw muscle.UPDATE 2 (): Prime 2D has been officially cancelled. Maybe hold B to do a Power Bomb, but it wouldn't be anything like its Super Metroid form lol. Having recently played Super Metroid tho, I can say there could be a few changes that would keep the character fundamentally the same while representing the series better:ī: Charge Shot should be a little more spammable as an uncharged projectile, with a run and gun option when not held similar to Mega Man's basic attack, but not as spammable. They'll probably not be reworked, since they're meant to be newcomers' touchstones of familiarity with new smash games, remaining mostly true to their gameplay since 64.įrankly, I don't think it's a bad thing, especially when changes can be made gradually, like how Link has I feel like the original Smash Characters are more Smash Characters than they are representations of the characters from their series. Honestly, Samus's moveset feels like Sakurai played Metroid for NES once and read the manual for Super Metroid and called it a day. Its not like there's a shortage of inspiration either, the Counter from Samus Returns would have made a perfect Up Smash in Ultimate, her dodge could take after the dodge animation in Other M, the Charge Shot could have its color changed to yellow to match its canon appearance, etc. The iconic Ice Beam was shafted for a generic flamethrower (Samus wouldn't canonically use a flamethrower until Metroid Prime, two years after Smash 64), the Speed Booster/Shinespark is nowhere to be seen, and she doesn't even get a crawling animation while Morph Ball is relegated to her dodge and bomb animations. This isn't the agile tank with a truckload of weaponry I've come to love from the Metroid series, this is some awkward, floaty robot with a generic set of moves and three attacks from the actual Metroid games. I like the content they gave the Metroid series, with lots of great music and stages, but Samus herself never sat right with me.
